Illegal encampment moved on from Boston car park as MP Richard Tice blasts ‘trail of filth’

An illegal encampment on a car park has been moved on after forcing several businesses to close over the bank holiday weekend.

Up to 10 caravans were spotted setting up on the Cattle Market car park in Boston on Monday (April 21).

Following the arrival of the encampment, multiple businesses closed their doors.

The Eagle pub on West Street posted on Facebook: “The doors have been locked as a precaution at The Eagle tonight.

“You can still get in but you’ll have to knock on the window so we know who it is.

“Sorry for any inconvenience, but I’m sure you’ll understand.”

MP for Boston and Skegness Richard Tice also took to X, formerly known as Twitter, stating: “It’s a bank holiday Monday and a prime time for local hospitality to thrive.

"Instead these businesses are being forced to close their doors out of fear of this group of people who act as if they are above the law."

The Reform UK MP also pointed out that this is not a single instance as around 20 caravans had been spotted in Jenny's Woods in Wyberton on Monday, April 14.

"In recent days they have caused damage and left a trail of filth," continued Mr Tice.

"This is totally unacceptable. I am on the side of law abiding residents and businesses.”

Mr Tice added: “Authorities need to act immediately to stop this abuse, not kowtow to them.

“And they should be made to pay for damage caused."

Boston Borough Council confirmed earlier today (Tuesday) that all but one of the vehicles in the latest illegal encampment had now moved on following council action.

A spokesperson stated: "Statutory notices were served yesterday, Monday April 21, on all vehicles forming an unlawful encampment on Cattle Market Car Park.

"All notices were formally served less than two-and-a-half hours after the encampment was set up.

“Following the issuing of these notices, all but one vehicle has now left the site.

"If the remaining vehicle is not removed, or if those responsible do not comply with the requirements of the notice, further legal action can and will be taken."
