NHS Lincolnshire Integrated Care Board submits health and care centre plan for former B&M store in Boston

Plans for a new health and care centre in the heart of Boston have been revealed.

NHS Lincolnshire Integrated Care Board (ICB) has submitted a planning application to Boston Borough Council for an Integrated Health and Care Centre (IHCC) on the former B&M site, which is currently vacant and is due to be demolished as part of the Rosegarth Square redevelopment.

According to the application, the three-storey health hub will focus on out-of-hospital care, tackling health inequalities, enabling prevention and early intervention, improving coordination of care, and delivering greater efficiency.

The centre is expected to include the relocation of a general medical practice, a pharmacy, and other healthcare services. It would be co-located with the library and offer a range of wellbeing amenities provided by various organisations.

Multiple services will be accommodated on the ground floor, including the pharmacy, library, community dental, sexual health, shared clinical spaces, and mental health services.

The first floor will house GP services, including the relocated Liquorpond Surgery, which will occupy the entire floor. This provides the surgery with its own dedicated space, with administrative offices alongside to support operations. The first floor will also include administrative spaces to service other departments.

The second floor will consist of further administrative accommodation for key local NHS services and shared staff support services.

"The Boston Integrated Health and Care Centre (IHCC) provides a real opportunity to enable community-centred care based on population needs," the applicant wrote.

"The key aim of the Integrated Health and Care Centre is to be an enabler for improving the local population’s health and wellbeing."

They added: "The intention is to work across organisations that are mutually supportive and provide significant compounded social benefits. It will be a space where services can be wrapped around the individual in a proactive, accessible, friendly and welcoming environment."

Boston Borough Council's Rosegarth Square scheme includes a new public park extending from the River Witham to the Len Medlock Centre, as well as improved pedestrian routes and art installations.

Work on the regeneration project began earlier this year and is expected to be completed by February 2026.

The authority was awarded £14.8 million from the government's Levelling Up fund in January 2023, part of which will also support the revamp of Crown House into a mix of residential and other uses.
