Suspended jail sentence for Old Leake man caught with blade for second time
A man caught in possession of a knife for a second time has been told to stay out of trouble or face prison.
Twenty-one-year-old Kieran Smith handed the kitchen knife over to police after being arrested for a separate matter on November 27 last year, saying he found the five-inch blade in a dyke.
He had previous pleaded guilty to the offence before appearing in court on Wednesday (April 9).
“The defendant was arrested for another matter but, in custody, volunteered to police he had the knife on him,” prosecutor Turan Sunat told Boston magistrates.
“He said he found it in a dyke. It had a five-inch blade.”
Mr Sunat added that Smith, of Sandygate Crescent, Old Leake, had a previous bladed article offence on his record dating back to 2023.
In defence, Mike Alexander told the court his client suffers from ADHD.
“He volunteered he had the knife to police,” he added.
“He handed it to them. There was nothing threatening.”
Smith, who receives benefits, was handed a six-month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months and ordered to carry out 25 rehabilitation days and 12 mental health treatment requirement sessions.
He was also fined £154 and told to pay £400 costs.
Magistrates also ordered the deprivation of the knife.
