Bourne Galletly Medical Practice receives outstanding CQC report rating
A doctors’ surgery has been rated ‘outstanding’ by inspectors.
Scrutinised in five areas by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), Bourne Galletly Medical Practice in the town’s North Road was found to be outstanding in three and good in two, giving it the highest level rating overall.
Its last inspection was in 2014, when it was rated ‘good’ overall.
The surgery’s 10 GPs look after about 15,000 patients from Bourne and the surrounding areas, supported by 10 nurses and five healthcare support workers.
Inspectors found patients were ‘continually positive about the way staff treated people’ and felt staff ‘went the extra mile’, with care and support ‘exceeding their expectations’.
The CQC also found patients’ individual needs and preferences were central to the delivery of services and that staff were proud of where they worked.
Bourne Galletly’s safety and effectiveness were rated good, while its care, responsiveness and leadership are outstanding.
No breaches of regulations were found, although the practice has been asked to continue to monitor the prescribing of antibiotics, encourage the uptake of childhood immunisation and cervical cancer screening, and to implement a new system for reviewing the work of staff who prescribe non-medical interventions, such as activities to benefit mental and physical health.
A statement from the five GP partners at Galletly, Ian Robinson and doctors Antony Wright, Paul Cregor, Rebecca Mitchell and Richard Coates, said: “Outstanding isn't a term people associate with the NHS at the moment. But we are incredibly proud of our team and our hard work and commitment over the eight years since our last inspection and we are thrilled that our rating reflects this.
“Outstanding recognises all of the things we all do to go above and beyond, including planning for our future and doing the very best we can in the current (extremely challenging) climate of healthcare in the NHS.
“We promise to continue to do everything possible to provide the best service we can. With this in mind, we are delighted to announce the recruitment of three new long-term GPs in the next year.
“We would love to take this chance to extend an enormous thank you to our team, who work so hard every day. This recognition has given us all a huge boost when it was needed most.”
Bourne Galletly Medical Practice is open from 8.30am to 6.30pm weekdays, with clinics until 8pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Same-day appointments and those booked in advance are available, both face-to-face and over the phone. There are also appointments available on Saturday mornings.
