Former Peterborough Sports, Spalding United and AFC Rushden & Diamonds striker Jordan Macleod joins Bourne Town

Former Spalding United and Peterborough Sports attacker Jordan Macleod has started out on his road to recovery from a lengthy injury by signing for Bourne Town.

Macleod hasn't played competitively for the past couple of seasons after sustaining an anterior cruciate ligament injury while with Corby Town.

But the ex-AFC Rushden and Diamonds hitman is now working his way back to fitness and Bourne boss Michael Goode - who managed Macleod during his stint as boss of Deeping Rangers - feels he could be a welcome addition in their push for promotion from the United Counties League.

Goode explained: "We're hoping that Jordan will train with us this week.

"He's on a comeback and, although he hasn't played any football, he's still a very useful player to have if we need him.

"We've given him a fitness programme and he looks ok so, if he comes through training, then he's another option for the next few weeks."

The Wakes have also signed former Stamford and Grantham attacker Rodrigo Goncalves who is dual registered with Northern Premier League Midlands Division champions Quorn.

He will be available if required once the Foxhunters' title-winning campaign is over if Bourne's season heads into the play-offs.

The Wakes are currently in third spot in the Premier Division North, two points behind league leaders Lincoln United with each of the top teams having four games remaining.

Bourne head to fifth-placed Heanor Town on Saturday where a point would guarantee at least a spot in the play-offs.

They played out a 1-1 draw with Gresley Rovers on Saturday after Aaron Eyett's equalised late on following the first half dismissal of Alvin Magagada.

Goode added: "We played some great football on Saturday which served us well after the sending off.

"It was brilliant to show the character to come back but there were mixed emotions because we felt we should have won the game even with 10 men.

"It will another tough game on Saturday because Heanor are going really well at the moment so they're going to want to win every game to stay in the play-offs but we have to go there and try and win ourselves.

"All we can now is to win our last four games and, if the others slip up, then we're there. It's the only way we can look at it."

The Wakes are hopeful that top scorer Zac Allen could feature in the squad on Saturday after missing a number of games due to injury.

Allen is still among the leading marksmen in the division with 31 goals despite not starting a game since the FA Vase victory over Atherton Laburnum Rovers in February.
