Bourne Town Reserves are poised for promotion from Division Two of the Peterborough and District League
Bourne Town Reserves are on the verge of securing a third successive promotion.
After winning the Division Three title last season following promotion the previous campaign, the Wakes' second string need one point from their final three games to clinch the runners-up spot in Division Two.
They host Stamford Lions tonight (Tuesday) at the Abbey Lawn where a positive points return would clinch second place and promotion.
They go into the match after a 5-1 home win over Leverington Sports Reserves on Saturday where Arron Pike continued his prolific goalscoring form.
He netted a hat-trick and has now scored eight goals in the last four games of a winning streak for the Wakes.
The young Bourne side started strongly on Saturday, having the bulk of possession.
Early on the play was in a controlled manner with good build up play from the back.
Jake Dilley and Archie Waterland in the centre of defence coordinated affairs with good distribution to the wide areas.
The opportunities came thick and fast and James Ferrow, occupying the wide right area, fired wide.
Not long after Alfie Woodward implemented the press really well, with Liam Bedford the beneficiary to shoot wide from 10 yards.
Further neat build up play sent Luke Scampion on an excellent run from deep. One-on-one with the keeper, the finish was lacking with Ferrow following up to shoot narrowly wide.
The well deserved breakthrough finally arrived, Bedford with a run in behind down the right found Pike at the far post for a tap in.
With Matthew Bills and Scampion superbly controlling the flow of forward play in the middle of the park, the chances kept coming.
Further openings were created with Woodward and Ferrow being thwarted by the inspired Leverington keeper.
At the other end, chances were few and far between with Ben Asplin having very little to do in the Bourne goal.
However, a lapse of concentration in the Bourne defensive third, provided Leverington with hope, their forward dispatching into the net when put through to level the match.
From the kick off, another Ferrow run down the right resulted in a well delivered cross which Bedford met superbly on the volley with the goalbound effort just going over the bar.
On the stroke of half-time, the lead was restored with Pike finishing from 20 yards.
Arguably the best team goal of the afternoon came from some neat passing play 10 minutes after the break.
Waterland, from deep, played a ball in field to Bills, who found Hasler. The latter's sublime ball met Woodward's run towards goal who finished exquisitely.
The fourth followed with Alfie Ball from the left back position, forcing a corner from some positive attacking play.
From Pike’s corner, Scampion fed Bedford who volleyed in from close range.
Dan Henson, on for a Ball at left back, didn't take long to get into the game as a long range speculative effort was sent over the bar by the Leverington keeper.
The goalscoring was complete with five minutes left as Henson found Pike who exchanged passes with Woodward, the former coolly finishing to complete his hat-trick and make it eight games unbeaten for the Wakes.
