Albania seems to be the new up and coming holiday destination for 2024, says Grantham travel expert Lynne Page

Albania seems to be the new up and coming holiday destination for 2024, due to it’s stunning landscapes, rich history and cultural diversity, writes travel expert Lynne Page of The Holiday Village.

Albania has something to offer every holiday maker. Whether you are interested in exploring ancient ruins, relaxing on beautiful beaches, or experiencing vibrant local traditions.

If you are planning a trip to Albania next year then the Albanian Riviera has some pristine beaches that are well worth a visit, including Dhermi, Ksamil and Jale. You will also find breathtaking views of the Ionian Sea and the coastal landscape by way of the Llogara Pass. There is the option of taking a boat trip to Ksamil Islands to explore the secluded Grama Bay and enjoy a quieter Berach experience.

If it is vibrant nightlife you are after then the beach towns of Sarande and Himare are where it’s at.

For historical sites you can explore the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Gjirokaster which is known for its well-preserved Ottoman architecture. Then there is the ancient city of Butrint, an archaeological site with Greek, Roman, Byzantine and Venetian influences or discover the historical significance of the “City of a Thousand Windows” Berat.

The capital of Albania is Tirana, where you can explore Skanderbeg Square, the National History Museum and the vibrant district of Blloku.

For more insights into Albania’s communist past visit the Bunk’Art Museum which is located in former bunkers.

Outdoor adventurers may want to explore the Accursed Mountains for hiking and taking in the stunning landscapes. There are two very picturesque mountain villages that are worth a visit for more outdoor activities, Theth and Valbona.

The local cuisine that Albania has to offer includes dishes such as a savoury pastry called byrek, tave kosi (yogurt and lamb casserole) and qofte (meatballs).

There are also plenty of cultural events and festivals being celebrated throughout the year which include music, dance and local customs.

Maybe Albania could be your next holiday in the sun?
