Grantham depot pivotal as company delivers 200,000 food boxes a week to the vulnerable
A food delivery company has launched a service which is now delivering nearly 200,000 food boxes a week to feed the vulnerable.
The service was planned, designed, and launched in just nine days, after Brakes was asked to work closely with the government, industry organisations and other wholesalers to create a plan to help those people across the country who are clinically vulnerable and cannot get access to food.
Its Grantham depot has played a vital role in putting together the food boxes, producing around 60,000 boxes per week and well over half of the near 500,000 that Brakes has delivered across Great Britain.
Now, the company has gone on to help other consumers in the Grantham area, with the introduction of call and collect and home delivery services. These include everything from everyday staples to award-winning products, aiming to provide a stress-free alternative to visiting the supermarket.
In a statement, Brakes said: “The reaction has been phenomenal. It has made such a difference to so many people worried about where their next meal is coming from.
“We are unbelievably proud of the work that we are doing, not only in supporting this amazing initiative to get food and essential supplies into the hands of the people that most need them, but also with our regular work supporting the essential services in care homes and hospitals where staff are on the frontline.
“Being able to play a small part in helping organisations like these is an incredible honour and our drivers and warehouse staff are doing a great job to ensure that we are providing the food that is required to keep these essential services going.
“It is hard work, and demanding on our colleagues, especially as we have had to change our business model from supplying restaurants and pubs to working much more closely with consumers.
“But the team at the Grantham depot are an amazing, dedicated, and innovative crew and are all delighted to be able to see the difference that they as a team, and we as a business, are making.
“For some people, our drivers are the only friendly face they see all week and the letters, cards, and positive comments on social media show that what we are doing is working and we are extremely proud of that.”
