Murderers of Grantham haulage depot robber are jailed for life
Two men have been given life sentences after they were found guilty of murdering a gangster who was involved in a haulage robbery in Grantham.
Mark Fellows, 38, and Steven Boyle were found guilty of murdering John Kinsella, who took part in the 2006 robbery of the James Irlam haulage depot off Harlaxton Road. Kinsella was shot dead last year while walking his dog in Liverpool. Fellows was also found guilty of the murder of underworld ‘Mr Big’ Paul Massey. He shot Massey dead with an Uzi machine gun in 2015.
Fellows was handed a whole life sentence while Boyle must serve at least 33 years behind bars. The pair were found guilty of Kinsella’s murder after a six-week trial at Liverpool Crown Court.
Kinsella, then 43, was accused of taking part in the Grantham robbery in which more than £41,000 of detergent, Easter eggs and Pringles were stolen. During the March 2006 robbery, a night watchman was tied up by the gang who wore balaclavas and camouflaged clothing.
Kinsella walked out of Lincoln Crown Court in 2008 and went on the run moments before being found guilty of robbing the depot. He was eventually arrested in Amsterdam and handed an 11-year sentence for robbery, dangerous driving and skipping bail for the crime.
This week Liverpool Crown Court heard that 'Gangland enforcer' Kinsella was executed by a masked cyclist when walking his dogs with his pregnant partner Wendy Owen. The 53-year-old, who once stopped a gangster threatening to maim Liverpool FC captain Steven Gerrard, was shot four times by Fellows while Boyle acted as his 'spotter'.
Miss Owen, 41, said she was also fired at by the assassin, on a country lane near junction 7 of the M62 in Rainhill, on the morning of May 5 last year. Fellows and Boyle were both found not guilty of the attempted murder of Miss Owen.
