Eerie pictures reveal extent of damage caused by Langar Airfield Industrial Estate blaze

Ninety firefighters battled a large-scale blaze at Langar Airfield Industrial Estate.

An investigation is under way into the cause of the fire, which broke out just before 2.45pm on Thursday at a paper recycling centre in Coach Gap Lane.

At its peak, 15 fire crews were at the scene, including from Grantham and Bingham.

Smoke from the blaze could be seen from as far as Caythorpe to the east and Nottingham to the west.

One high-volume pump, three water carriers and one command unit on-scene were used to put the fire out.

At one stage there was a risk of asbestos and nearby residents were asked to keep their doors and windows closed if they could see the smoke plume or believe it was affecting their area, but this was later downgraded.

Nearby residents reported hearing explosions from the site.

Fire crews remained at the scene for several days damping down.
