Plans for 250 new homes on land next to Prince William of Gloucester Barracks in Grantham
Plans have been submitted to build 250 new homes on land next to a Grantham army barracks.
An application from Bloor Homes Ltd is seeking permission to build 250 new houses on land to the north of the A52 Bridge End Road at Somerby Hill.
The 9.53 hectare site in question sits to the west of the Prince William of Gloucester Army Barracks, which has been allocated for an urban extension of 3,500 to 4,000 homes.
However, the closure of the barracks was pushed back until 2028, with no clear timeline for the development of the site.
The Bloor Homes proposal includes a mix of one, two, three and four-bedroom properties, which will come in a range of types, such as maisonettes, terraced, semi-detached and detached houses.
Of the 250 homes, 75 (30 per cent) will be designated as affordable housing which is split into, rented, shared ownerships, and first homes.
Also in the proposal are provisions for open space of over 2.6 hectares, which includes trees, hedgerows and children’s play areas.
The site, which is currently undeveloped farmland, has outline planning permission for 205 dwellings, which remains live.
Grantham's shape could change dramatically over the next two decades, with the development of the barracks and the nearby 3,700-home Spitalgate Garden Village which was approved in 2019.
The town is also set to grow to the north too, with the Rectory Farm and Poplar Farm urban extensions under way.
