Enterprise car rental company building new unit in Grantham on former Travis Perkins site

Building has started on the site of a former builders’ merchant in Grantham.

The site of the old Travis Perkins, in Harlaxton Road, will become home to car hire company Enterprise.

A company spokesperson said the branch is expected to open in the autumn, with the creation of eight jobs.

In June last year, the Journal reported on plans submitted for the site, which also included a Wellis hot tub showroom and storage and distribution area, measuring around 2,100sq metres.

The Journal has approached Wellis for comment on whether its plans area going ahead but none has been received.

Before Covid-19 hit, Enterprise had premises in Inner Street but this closed during the pandemic.

“But it was always our intention to find a bigger site,” said the spokesperson.

He added: “We are delighted to be returning to Grantham and to be able to offer our services to local residents, businesses and visitors to the area.

“We are particularly pleased to be creating new jobs.

“Enterprise is an international organisation but we believe in being part of the communities in which we operate and we look forward to becoming part of Grantham’s thriving business community and helping residents with their mobility needs.”

From the site Enterprise will offer cars for rent plus have two bays for its Car Club operation, which enables people to book and access vehicles 24/7 via an app.

It will use solar power towards powering the site.

Travis Perkins in Grantham was one of 165 stores nationwide to close in the summer of 2020 as a result of the Covid pandemic.
