Harrowby United are beaten by Melton Town in the United Counties League

An own goal in injury-time sent Harrowby United to defeat in their United Counties League clash with Melton Town on Saturday.

The visitors scored the only goal of the Premier Division North game in stoppage time to take the points as a cross was turned in past stand-in Arrows goalkeeper Kemal Yeniberitz.

The Harrowby captain had been forced to deputise between the posts for the last 10 minutes of the game due to an injury to Oluyinka Abebowale.

The penultimate home game of the season for the Arrows had the feel of a mid-table clash with nothing to play for.

It was a poor game with only a few chances for both teams throughout the contest.

The Arrows were again depleted through absentees with manager Jamie McGhee having to start at centre half on a rock hard pitch where football was at a premium with the bounce so unpredictable.

Melton probably had the best of the chances in the first half but that lack of composure which was evident for both sides showed in a goalless opening period.

The second half got a little better with Harrowby shading it and the introduction of the substitutes gave the Arrows a bit more energy.

The home side had a great chance to take the lead when a ball into the box fell to Elliot King with only the keeper to beat but the custodian got a hand to it and it was pushed wide.

With time running out and the game heading for a goalless draw, Melton got an undeserved winner as they sprang the offside trap and, as the cross came in, it was turned into the net by a home player.

Harrowby complete their league campaign this weekend as they travel to Deeping Rangers on Saturday before hosting Bourne Town at the JRL Brickwork Stadium on Easter Monday.
