YOUTH FOOTBALL: Isaac Newton School girls are Grantham champions
Isaac Newton girls triumphed in the Grantham Primary Schools’ football tournament.
There were 10 teams involved in the tournament, split into two leagues, with each school playing each other.
Isaac Newton cruised through to the semi-finals where they came up against Long Bennington. The game finished 0-0 and went to penalities, with Isaac Newton winning the shoot-out 2-1 to progress through to the final.
The final saw Isaac Newton facing a school who had won the tournament for the last two years – the National.
Once again, the game ended 0-0 after extra time and once more it came down to a penalty shoot-out.
Isaac Newton keeper Ella Webb was in fine form, as she had been all afternoon, not conceding a goal in open play, and her side won the shoot-out 4-0 to be crowned the new champions.
Laura Jones, the team’s manager, was over the moon with how the girls performed.
Isaac Newton will now contest the county final to be held in Sleaford on Saturday, February 6, 2016.
