Labour candidate in Greater Lincolnshire mayoral elections ‘in process of moving to county’

Lincolnshire residency has become an issue in the campaign, with Reform candidate Andrea Jenkyns also facing criticism for living in Yorkshire.

Mr Stockwood was born in Grimsby and has spent his career building businesses in the tech sector.

A Labour spokesperson said: “Jason is born and bred in Grimsby. After a successful career in business, Jason’s work is in Grimsby where he bought the football club, chairs the new Onside Horizon Youthzone and founded a charity called Our Future.

“When in Grimsby, Jason stays with his brother.

“Jason is currently in the process of moving full-time to Lincoln, with his children due to start school in the county in September.

“When not in Lincolnshire, Jason resides in Cheshire.”

The mayoral election will take place on Thursday, May 1.

The other candidates running are Rob Waltham (Con), Andrea Jenkyns (Ref), Marianne Overton (Ind) Trevor Young (Lib Dem) and Sally Horscroft (Green).

Ms Jenkyns has come under fire in Conservative leaflets for not having strong connections with Lincolnshire, which she described as “disingenuous.”

“I was born in Beverley and moved here when I was seven years old. I have lived in New Holland, East Halton and Healing, gone to Grimsby college and University of Lincoln, and been a councillor for Boston,” she previously said.

“I moved away in 2015 when I won the [Morley and Outwood] seat off Ed Balls.

“I have got a place I rent, but I have a son with special needs, and any parent wouldn’t pull their child out of school until they know if they’ve won. If I win on May 1, I will move here full time.”
