Free tennis open day in Uppingham

People wanting to take up a new activity for the summer can try their hand at tennis this month.

A free taster day is taking place at Uppingham Community College’s courts, suitable for people aged 13 and over.

No previous tennis experience is necessary and free coaching will be available, while rackets can be borrowed on the day.

Andy Gilgrist from community club Rutland Tennis Academy Uppingham, which is organising the open day, said: “Tennis is a great sport for getting and keeping fit, developing skills, meeting new people and joining in with the social side of a thriving community club.”

He added that club members include new starters of all ages, as well as ‘rusty racket’ returners who last played at school.

“The emphasis is on being active in the outdoors, enjoying the great game of tennis and, above all, having fun,” he added.
