Oakham United Women win the Leicestershire League Cup
Oakham United Women are celebrating a cup final success.
They triumphed in the final of the Leicestershire Women's League Cup by beating Allexton and New Parks.
The Rutland side ran out 5-1 winners after an excellent display in the final which was played at Melton Sports Village.
The club said: "The girls put on an unreal performance.
"From start to finish, it was all about desire, discipline, and belief.
"The positioning was sharp, the energy was top, and the hunger to win was unmatched.
"Every single player stepped up — this win was a massive credit to the whole team."
Player of the match Zina Cheikh played a starring role in Oakham's success.
Cheikh scored twice in the opening 34 minutes to give Oakham control of the contest at the break.
She then set up two further goals in the second period as strikes from Gemma Davies, Molly Cunningham and substitute Maja Ziemian sealed the success.
The club added: "Zina showed real quality, scoring two brilliant first-half goals and setting up two more in the second.
"She had a direct impact on four goals - that's a performance.
"But it wasn’t just the stats - she didn’t stop leading, encouraging and driving the team forward. Zina stepped up when it mattered most."
Oakham have five league matches remaining and are still on track for a top three finish in their second season in Division One.
They travel to Marlborough Rovers tonight (Wednesday) before hosting Kirby Muxloe Ladies at Newton Fallowell Meadow on Sunday, April 27.
