Oakham United Veterans win the Peterborough and District League title




Oakham United Veterans clinched the Peterborough League East Division title in style with a derby victory over Uppingham Town.

They ran out 8-1 winners at Tod's Piece to clinch the championship after a 100 percent winning record during the campaign.

They started the season with a crushing 11-0 success over One Touch Football which was followed by a narrow 2-1 win at Stamford Bels.

They then beat Borderville Veterans and Glinton and Northborough 8-0 and 9-2 respectively before a 4-0 home win over Ketton Sports. A 5-1 win over Stamford Lions put them within touching distance of the title which was wrapped up against their Rutland rivals.

Michael Nelson - who is the division’s top scorer - netted four times while Marcus Baines bagged a hat-trick with Stu Lambie also on target. Rob Forster got the Uppingham goal.
