Starbucks to replace Costa Coffee at Welcome Break Applegreen services on outskirts of Spalding
A coffee shop in a busy petrol station is set for a change — with another well known multinational chain set to take it on.
Customers at the Welcome Break’s Applegreen services on the A16 outside of Spalding currently have the choice of Costa Coffee for their daily caffeine boost.
However, there are plans in place for this to be changed to Starbucks — adding to its growing band of local outlets, including in Spalding’s Sainsbury’s store, on the Wardentree estate in Pinchbeck, at Sutterton roundabout and on the A17 at Long Sutton.
Marie Hubbard, Applegreen services manager, said: “It will be changing from Costa to Starbucks.
“Starbucks will be available to drive-thru customers who use Welcome Break services.”
The changeover is still in its planning stages and the timeline is yet to be confirmed.
Applegreen is on the outskirts of Spalding at Lincs Gateway Business Park, close to the Tulip Queen pub, and also houses Greggs and Subway.
There are also plans for a Starbucks drive-thru to move to a site close to the recently revamped A151/A16 Springfields Roundabout, which has a McDonald’s fast food restaurant nearby.
A Starbucks spokesperson said: “We are always looking for new locations and opportunities to bring the Starbucks Experience to customers in the UK, but at this time we have no news to share about plans for the Applegreen Petrol Station, Spalding.”
Costa Coffee has also been contacted for comment.
