Mum's witness appeal after son (2) injured in hit-and-run

A mum is appealing for witnesses to come forward after her two-year-old boy was injured in a hit and run in Spalding.

Emma Griffin (22) was walking along Clay Lake river bank, near the A16, on Wednesday with her partner Andrew Geeson (23), their son Oscar and daughter Lily (3) when Oscar stumbled into the road and was hit by a car.

He was left with bruising and swelling to his left arm and soft tissue damage to his elbow, collarbone and shoulder blade and tyre marks on his right arm. But Emma realises it could have been a lot worse.

“We had gone for a walk along the river bank, along the bridge,” Emma said. “And a car came over the bridge and there is not a lot of room.

“I was standing with my little boy when he tripped and stumbled in front of the car. It was an accident.

“I picked my son up and I could hear the passengers gasping and someone said ‘oh my God’. My first thought was making sure Oscar was all right and you could see tyre marks on his arm. He was crying and screaming.”

The car, described as a dark red, five-door saloon car, did not stop.

The couple, who live in Spalding, took Oscar straight to Peterborough City Hospital where he was checked over for broken bones.

“There was a lot of bruising and swelling. There was soft tissue damage to his left arm, his elbow, collarbone and shoulder blade,” Emma said. “It could have been worse.”

The mum said there was a man and a woman in the front of the car that hit Oscar and two children in the back who she believed could be aged about six to seven-years-old.

“We called the police after it happened and they came round that evening. They treated it quite seriously and explained it is an RTC (road traffic collision) and a hit and run.

“It was an accident. I would just say to the people in the car to come forward. A two-year-old was hurt.”

The incident happened on Wednesday (August 8) at 4.50pm. If anyone was nearby, or witnessed the incident, please call police on 101, quoting incident 394 of August 8.
