Changes to micro energy storage boxes in Spalding, Holbeach and Gosberton approved

Five micro energy storage boxes can be placed on land across South Holland.

Councillors voted in favour of passing the schemes in Spalding, Holbeach and Gosberton after applicant AMP Clean Energy requested changes be made to the five projects, which had previously been given the green light.

These had to be approved by South Holland District Council’s Planning Committee following the introduction of a new manufacturer.

Coun Paul Redgate moved the motion but did question why the boxes could not be more in fitting with their environment.

“It would be nice to get them in colours that would mask them in the areas if they’re changing the boxes, some sort of green or something that hides them a bit better than the greys and blues we’re looking at at the moment,” he said.

The five 25m² plots will be situated at Parkside Crescent, Holbeach Road and Roman Bank in Spalding as well as land to the east of Boston Road in Holbeach and land at Whitehall/Belchmire Lane in Gosberton.

These micro energy storage facilities hold electricity from periods of low demand or high generation to be stored for periods of peak usage or high demand.

SHDC owns the land on which the projects will be sited.

Coun Bryan Alcock asked officers whether the committee could be ‘assured there is no variation on the sceening and fencing originally approved’, to which he was told conditions regarding landscaping and screening details being submitted for approval were in place.

The application was passed unanimously.
