Couple 'living in fear' after graffiti attack on Spalding home

A Spalding tenant and his partner are both "living in fear" after waking up to find their home vandalised.

Matthew Poxon, of Rowan Avenue, has decided to install CCTV cameras outside his home after vandals daubed cross-like symbols on windows, walls and the front door.

It happened between 5.45am and 7am on Monday, leaving Mr Poxon and his partner, who asked not to be name, feeling "unsafe" in their council house.

Mt Poxon said: "I let the cat out at 5.30am on Monday and the house was fine.

"But when I got up again at 7am, my partner and I saw paint on the outside of the house.

"I called 101 and asked the police to come, then called the district council because we couldn't lock the front door as the vandals had poured paint into it.

"We've lived here for eight or nine years and nothing like this has ever happened before."

After the attack, Mr Poxon called in a locksmith to make the front door secure and then set about washing the windows and repainting most of the outside of the house.

He said: "My partner suffers with her nerves so we have to sleep with curtains and blinds open.

"But we now feel unsafe in our own home after this vandalism and we have no idea why someone would have done this.

"We're going to buy a CCTV camera and install it just in case it happens again.

"But why should we have to live in fear?"

A spokesman for South Holland District Council said: "We, as a council, take graffiti and any other forms of anti-social behaviour extremely seriously.

"The council has discussed the matter with the police and will be having discussions with the tenant to allay any fears they may have and to ensure that this issue is resolved effectively.

"We would encourage any resident who has experienced anti-social behaviour to report this to police on 101 or to South Holland District Council’s communities team on 01775 761161.”

Inspector Gareth Boxall, neighbourhood policing inspector for South Holland, said: "I can confirm that we are aware of an incident at an address in Rowan Avenue, Spalding.

"We are investigating the incident and if anyone has any information about this crime, they should contact us, quoting incident 47 of June 18.
