Environment Agency cut Welland Yacht Club's weeds amidst reports of dead fish
Environment Agency officials battled overgrown weeds at Welland Yacht Club this morning after reports of dead fish in the water.
The club's sailing secretary Mark Holland told the Lincolnshire Free Press that the weed was backed up from their clubhouse to Little London Bridge last night, but that the Agency only acted after learning of the dead fish.
However, an agency spokesperson says the complaint about the fish was made on Monday - and that none were found at the scene when their contractors visited. They also said they had planned to attend to the weeds anyway, and that the timing with the fish report was a coincidence.
The Agency's contractor reportedly brought two weed cutters, but only used one.
Welland Yacht Club has been blighted by the weed problem since the start of the summer, with a number of their races postponed or cancelled due to the issue.
