Plans in to build on Bourne greenfield site

Plans to build 45 homes close to a woodland have been submitted by a developer.

If given the go-ahead by South Kesteven District Council, Hazelton Homes will be able to build on a greenfield area nearly the size of two football pitches in Bourne.

The land lies north-west of Cedar Drive but would leave a strip of greenfield land about 150m to 200m wide between the new homes and the east side of Bourne Wood.

Details of the proposed homes are in the application (reference S22/0080), which include a mixture of 14 two- and three-bedroom ‘affordable’ houses.

The 31 homes for regular buyers would comprise a couple of two-bedroom houses through to at least 15 properties with four or more bedrooms.

Originally earmarked for housing on the district’s Local Plan, the site was removed following opposition.

The Environment Agency says the land has a “low to medium chance of flooding from surface water” otherwise known as ‘run off’.

Bourne resident Helen Powell, a former councillor who has been a member of the planning committees of Lincolnshire County Council and South Kesteven District Council, said she believed the flood risk was much higher, with thousands of homes being built in Derbyshire likely to cause ‘run off’ that would flow into and swell the watercourses around Bourne.

The 45 proposed homes could exacerbate these issues, she believes.

“We cannot be putting any more agricultural land under concrete,” said Helen, who added that the ‘boggy’ land is currently used to graze cattle and that farmland in Lincolnshire is vital for food production.

l While Applegate Homes has applied to South Holland District Council to build nine new homes in Fleet Hargate.

The developer is hoping to build the two storey dwellings on land off Fleet Road, Fleet Hargate, which is closed to the A17 and lies behind Old Main Road.
