Doctor Who stars among famous faces attending this year’s Spalding Comicon
With the latest series starting on TV on Saturday, stars of Doctor Who are among the famous faces confirmed to attend an upcoming comicon.
Spalding Comicon will return for a second year this October, following the success of its inaugural event which saw a packed house treated to a day of guest Q&As and selfie hunting, as well as live wrestling, retro gaming and the chance to view many lively trade stalls.
Sylvester McCoy, who played the Doctor for 42 episodes in the 1980s - battling the Daleks, Cybermen and Happiness Patrol along the way - has been announced as one of this year’s guests.
And ensuring it’s a reunion to remember, he will be joined by the returning Sophie Aldred, who played his assistant Ace on the show.
“We are super thrilled to announce that the wonderful Sylvester McCoy will be attending Spalding Comicon,” a statement said.
“Sylvester, along with our last guest announcement, Sophie Aldred, starred in Doctor Who in the late 1980s covering 42 episodes. They later reprised their roles in 2022.
“Having both Sylvester and Sophie on the day will be a photo opportunity not to be missed.”
Also adding to the Doctor Who theme will be 10-year-old child actress Lily Baker, who has appeared in 2023 Christmas special, as well as having credits in Casualty, Phoenix Rise, Supacell and Wicked.
Also confirmed will be Hattie Hayridge, who played Holly in Red Dwarf, and Clem So, who has appeared in Star Wars, Mission Impossible, Doctor Who, Dr Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, Pokemon: Detective Pikachu and Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.
The event will return to Springfields Events and Conference Centre on October 18, with the inaugural Spalding Card Show offering trading card fans a treat the following day.
Last year’s Spalding Comicon was built on the success of the previous year’s Sutton Bridge Comicon, which brought together a brilliant array of stars and characters, but proved so successful it outgrew its originbal home at the Curlew Centre.
Adam and Mel Landy, who were behind the original two events have now stepped back from organising the event, with Jason Lee from the King’s Lynn-based Retro Retreat store - who helped co-organise last year, taking over the helm.
“I worked tirelessly with Adam and Mel on the 2024 event,” Jason explained.
“Personally, I put in hundreds of hours including organising the lead guests, preparing all the plans and documentation.
“I would like personally like to thank Adam and Mel for there hard work but fully understand why they have chosen not be involved anymore.”
