Definitions gym in Spalding launches clothing range and in-house barber
A Spalding gym is offering far more than just dumbbells and treadmills as it aims to make clients look and feel good inside and out.
Jack Smith (26) is a partner in and runs Definitions gym, in Cradge Bank, with sister Rosie and both are partners in the business co-owned with other members of their family.
And as well as working out, customers can now get a haircut at the in-house barber and look the part in the gym's own brand of workout clothing.
And having been in the Army for six years, both brands are named after Jack's forces nickname, 'Smudge'.
Having joined the Army from the former George Farmer School, Holbeach (now UAH), Jack worked as a PT instructor, spending a year in Germany as part of his service.
"But three years ago, when the opportunity came up, I thought 'I have to take it'," said Jack. "It's completely different, but in the same field.
"When I first came in, they just wanted me to improve things and I had to lay the foundations for a community gym. That was the most time-consuming thing.
"I wanted to make sure the service was better for the customers and make it a lot cleaner. The staff are dedicated to getting results for people, whether for their physical or mental health."
The following year, Jack extended the business, when Definitions took over the neighbouring boxing club and this year, he has launched the two diffusion brands - Smudge Barber and Smudge clothing.
The clothing range, launched at the start of last month, provides perfect workout wear for men and women, including leggings, hoodies, vests, caps and other accessories, all with the distinctive Smudge logo. It is available at the gym and also on the gym's website, www.definitionshealthandfitness.co.uk.
The barber's, which is situated off the entrance foyer of the gym, is described by Jack as being the "ultimate convenience". "They're all coming in now," he said. "At first, people said 'what are you doing?!', but I think the gamble's paid off."
Jack has several exciting plans in place for Definitions during 2019...but for now, he is keeping them firmly under his Smudge-logoed beanie.
