Fitness business confirms it is behind 24-hour gym plans in Spalding
A fitness firm has confirmed they are behind the plans for a new 24-hour gym.
The round-the-clock facility was given planning permission to operate in Spalding by South Holland District Council in October.
But now PureGym has confirmed they will be the ones operating in the now-closed CarpetRight building on Westlode Street.
"On the search for a 24/7 gym? Give your fitness and finances a helping hand at our great-value gym in Spalding, where everyone and everybody is welcome,” a statement on the business’s website read, under the headline ‘coming soon’.
“Our gym in Spalding is packed with the latest equipment to help you smash your fitness goals.
“Plus our memberships are contract free, and we have classes included in our memberships.”
Doors to the CarpetRight showroom are now locked, with the stock cleared from the floor.
Readers have previously aired concerns about the gym operating 24/7 in the town centre and questioned whether parking would be affected at the site, which shares a 145-space car park with the adjacent B&M store.
PureGym’s website conformed free-of-charge parking would be available, and that night training would take place unstaffed.
PureGym have now lodged a further planning application with the district council for works including the installation of air conditioning condensers and ventilation louvres to the rear elevation of the building, replacement entrance doors to the front elevation, the installation of four cycle stands adjacent to the main entrance and the widening of an existing fire exit to the rear elevation.
An accompanying acoustic design report prepared by Anderson Acoustics suggested this would create no adverse impact for nearby residents.
“The proposed fitout will provide dedicated areas for free-weights and functional use (which includes use of kettle bells and slam balls), there will also be a large main floor for resistance and cardio activity and a flex zone for stretching and light activities (no weight drops),” the report read.
“Amplified music will be played throughout these areas for background purposes only.

“The gym may also provide a general activity studio and a spin studio with the former used for all manner of exercise classes, including dance and high intensity interval training classes.
“Some activities in the studio and spin spaces will include higher levels of amplified music. It is understood the gym will operate 24 hours a day, with the studio activities limited to 6am-10.30pm.”
