Organisers of Fortnite Live Spalding Festival announce cancellation of event after owners of computer games take legal action over disastrous event in Norwich
An event based on the hit computer game Fortnite which was due to have been held in Spalding next month has been cancelled.
Spalding-based organisers, Exciting Events Limited, announced its decision on Tuesday after legal action against it by US firm Epic Games which owns Fortnite.
Fortnite Live Spalding Festival, due to have taken place at Springfields Events and Conference Centre, Spalding, on March 23 and 24, would have come six weeks after a similar event in Norwich which made national headlines at the weekend.
Complaints about the unofficial event, ranging from long queues to poor attractions, led to Epic Games forcing Exciting Events to pull the plug on the Spalding event.
In a statement, Exciting Events' director Shaun Lord said: "Fortnite Live has always been an unofficial event created by Fortnite fans, for Fortnite fans, and was designed around children playing the game, with the activities brainstormed by an audience of 10-14 year olds.
"Fortnite Live Norwich took place last weekend which created a whirlwind of publicity and, in response to the media frenzy, Epic Games (the owners of Fortnite) have now forced the shut down of the pre-booked future Fortnite Live event.
"This means that Exciting Events has been forced to cancel the Fortnite Live event in Spalding."
