Port Sutton Bridge founder says his 'cracking business was run into the ground'
The former owner of Port Sutton Bridge has expressed his disappointment at the site’s closure.
Earlier this year we reported that Port Sutton Bridge had ceased operations.
The port had been founded by Peter Clery, who feels that it would be still be a major asset to the area.
He said: “I am very sad as I had built a cracking business and people ran it into the ground.
“We had wonderful trade. We imported steel from Belgium which was sent to the Midlands to be processed into body parts and it was then exported to Sweden.
“We had ships from South America.
“Lincolnshire is missing out on a major asset for employment.
“Sutton Bridge has easier access to the sea than ports in Sutton Bridge and King’s Lynn.”
The Lincolnshire Free Press and Spalding Guardian contacted the owners C.Ro Ports for comment on several occasions but it is believed the port closed in March.
