Merkur Slots applies to South Holland District Council to increase opening hours of site in Spalding’s Hall Place

A gambling firm is hoping to increase the opening hours of its Spalding town centre site to 24 hours a day.

Merkur Slots has restricted opening hours after winning an appeal against South Holland District Council’s decision to reject a bid to open a gaming centre in the former Dorothy Perkins site in Hall Place.

It is currently only allowed to open from 7am to midnight Mondays to Saturdays and 10am to midnight on Sundays.

However the company has now applied to the district council to lift this restriction in order to open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Merkur has undertaken a noise assessment of the shop.

A document supporting the application states: “The assessment concludes that internal noise impacts are considered highly unlikely to occur and, based on the outcome of the assessment, the site is suitable for 24-hour operation.”

The store opened in October last year – despite strong opposition from the town and its politicians.
