Spalding Flower Parade committee appeals for volunteers to help event only two weeks away

Tulip pickers, marshals and car park attendants are still needed to help push preparations for Spalding Flower Parade over the finishing line.

Committee members are putting out a final call for volunteers to help pick and pin flowers to the floats, along with other essential roles ahead of the big day on Saturday May 10.

With only two weeks to go until the parade - which has a musical theme - the committee are putting out an urgent appeal for help before festivities start on May 9.

Tanya Chandler, volunteer lead, said: “I can’t express how much we need your help.

“We are a small committee who have worked tirelessly for the last year.

“Now we are at the final hurdle, we really need your support.”

The parade committee is entering six headline floats which are being decorated with a mixture of artificial, knitted and real tulip heads.

Volunteers are being requested to help with fresh tulip picking and pinning flowers to the floats.

Jordan Crowson, committee member said: “Fresh tulip head knobbing will be taking place on Tuesday, May 6, and Wednesday, May 7, with fresh tulip pinning on Thursday, May 8, and Friday, May 9.

“The committee and our wonderful volunteers are working all the hours we can to get the event ready and put on another spectacular free event.

“We want the whole of Spalding, and beyond, to enjoy the weekend.”

Stephen Timewell resurrected the event in 2023 after a ten-year break and thousands of visitors are expected to descend upon the town during the weekend.

The committee still desperately needs volunteers to oversee road junction closures, walking, marshalling or being on hand at the arena site on both days.

Roles are also needed to help look after craft stalls plus car parking attendants and ambassadors to meet and greet the coaches.

Mr Crowson added: “We are excited but there is still lots to do behind the scenes.

“The election night is this coming Saturday so as soon as that has ended, it's back onto the music weekend and parade day preparations.”
