20-year journey to success as Royal Taxis in Spalding celebrate milestone anniversary

A taxi firm that has chauffeured celebrities and sports stars since it launched 20 years ago will celebrate its milestone journey today (Friday, February 21).

Mroof Choudry had just one vehicle when he started Royals Taxis in Spalding back in 2005 but his fleet has grown to transport famous passengers including boxing champions Tyson Fury, Amir Khan and celebrity hairdresser Lee Stafford.

The businessman has a number of assets including Cockrams Transport — and will celebrate with staff in style when he returns from his Morocco offices.

He said: “I started the business from zero with one vehicle and my first fare was £2.20.

“Now we have 100 employees and last year across the board we had a £3million turnover.

“It is all about hard-working people, teamwork and I would say 95% of our staff live in Spalding.

Mr Choudry, originally from Kashmir, has four children and hopes that the business will continue into the next generation.

He said: “My oldest son, who is 21, will be joining us and also my daughter who has studied accountancy at university.”

The business has a strong community focus by providing free transport for children with special educational needs along with paying for pantomime tickets.

During the Covid pandemic, drivers convoyed NHS workers in the lockdowns and transported some 120 free meals every week to residents and staff at the Johnson Hospital.

The firm also celebrates each year to thank staff for their contribution to the company.

Mr Choudry added: “We highly praise all our team as we would not be here without all of them.

“All our staff hold a special place in our company and without them we would not be half the company we are today.

“We are strong believers in unity and working as a team and without this belief we would not have grown into the company we are now.”

When the firm launched two decades ago an opening ceremony saw Coun Alan Biggadike cut the ribbon - and a newspaper clipping has been kept from the event to help remember the pride felt.
