Spalding included in KFC's expansion plans with a drive-thru on the way

KFC has announced an expansion programme across the UK and plans to open a drive-thru restaurant in Spalding.

The town has been named as the fast food giant looks to expand its number of outlets to more than 1,000 by 2020.

Spalding Today revealed in December there were plans for a KFC restaurant and drive-thru on land in front of Spalding Bakery - but that application from SME Corporation Ltd is not connected to the current KFC announcement.

A spokesman for KFC said today: "KFC are exploring a number of opportunities along the A16 corridor for drive-thru use. The bakery site is not one of them. Spalding will only support one KFC."

Spalding is one of seven Lincolnshire sites earmarked by KFC for new restaurants. There are 31 "target locations" across the East Midlands, including Boston.

The company says: "We have bold ambitions to have over 1,000 stores in the UK and Ireland by 2020 and we are looking to build over 50 new stores a year."

SME Corporation has also been given planning consent for a coffee shop on land in front of the bakery - originally the company sought consent for a Costa drive-thru but changed the description to "coffee shop".
