Merkur explains stance on Spalding store application
Bosses at an adult gaming centre said they pulled out of a bid to open 24/7 after talks with the authorities.
Merkur had wanted to extend the opening hours of its site in Hall Place, Spalding – but withdrew its plans last week.
We have previously reported that the police felt the extra hours would increase crime and anti-social behavior, although they stopped short of formally objecting.
A Merkur Casino spokesman explained the company’s stance to this paper – and did not rule out a further bid for longer hours at a later date.
The spokesman said: “Following ongoing consultation with the police and local authorities, we have decided not to submit a formal 24-hour opening application at our adult gaming centre on Hall Place in Spalding.
“We ensure the very highest standards to deliver a safe gambling entertainment experience for all our customers and will continue to liaise closely with both the police and local authorities before taking any steps to review this decision in the future.”
