New cafe Amy’s Kitchen has opened in Donington
Homemade treats and locally sourced produce are dish of the day at a new café which has opened in Donington.
Amy Carney says it’s a dream come true to open her own business, Amy’s Kitchen, in the Market Place.
The mum of three, who grew up in Bicker, has recently returned to the area with husband James after living in Cambridgeshire, and is delighted to be serving her homemade food in the town.
Amy said the café sells lunchtime and snack favourites including homemade sandwiches, paninis, baguettes, salads, sausage rolls, cakes and Bakewell tarts.
As well as having a small seating area for customers to sit downstairs, Amy also offers a takeaway service.
“I opened the café last week and so far things have been going well,’ said Amy, who previously ran her own catering business Isle of Ely Fine Foods, in Chatteris, and has worked making specialty fudge for a sweet shop in Ely.
“It’s just me here on my own, but everything is homemade and made to order.
“I’ve always wanted to have my own café. Before the opportunity just never came up, or the timing wasn’t right, but this shop was available, and everything seems to have slotted into place.
“It really is a dream come true.”
l Amy’s Kitchen is open Tuesday to Saturday, 9am to 3pm, and she is also taking bookings for corporate lunches.
