DNA found at murder victim Alan Wood's Lound home will be reworked under new forensic tests to help bring killer to justice

Police are using the latest DNA technology in their hunt to track down the brutal killers of Alan Wood.

Alan (50) had been tortured and murdered at his home in Edenham Road, Lound, near Bourne, but a decade on his killers still remain at large.

To mark the 10th anniversary, Lincolnshire Police has launched a fresh appeal for information into the killing - which includes a £40,000 reward from Alan's employers Sainsbury's.

DNA which was been recovered from the scene are now being run through new forensic tests which could help to reveal more information about the killer.

Senior Investigating Officer Martin Holvey said: "Forensic tests are improving all of the time and we are now re-working forensics.

"We can do a test on the DNA profile to tell us the ethnicity of the offender and that may take us to the right part of the world where we can target some work.

"We can also obtain more information from less samples of DNA. This may tell us if there was another offender in Alan's house when he was attacked and murdered."

The DNA profile taken from Alan's home is on the national database, and shared with colleagues across the world, but so far has not resulted in a hit.

Mr Holvey, who worked on the original inquiry in 2009, is hoping that the 10th anniversary will encourage people to come forward with information they could not share at the time.

He said: "Someone out there must know this person, maybe at the time they didn't want to talk to us as they may have been a close friend or in a relationship but circumstances may have changed. Anyone can speak to us confidentially.

"The most important people in this case are Alan's family. We want to give them the news that we have found the person responsible. We can never bring Alan back but what we can do is bring some closure and some kind of answers."

Alan was last seen alive on October 21, 2009, at his local, The Willoughby Arms in Little Bytham, but his body was found in his living room by colleagues three days later.

Alan, who had run a small gardening business and also worked at Sainsbury's supermarket in Bourne, was found with his hands bound with tape.

His throat had been slit and a deep wound to the back of his neck suggested an attempted decapitation.

Alan's bank cards were used in Bourne and Stamford between October 22 and 25, 2009.

Mr Holvey said: "Alan's family are having to think about this when they wake up and when they go to sleep, it must be horrendous for them.

"We hope we can bring some kind of closure."
