Family-run Hallgate Timber in Long Sutton to celebrate 35 years of success
The manager of a family run firm which celebrates its 35th anniversary has shared the secrets to its success.
Hallgate Timber in Lime Walk, Long Sutton, was started by Eddie and Chris Harris on May 5, 1989, and now their son Mark continues the company’s success.
Over the years, the firm has met customers’ requests for some unusual buildings.
Mr Harris, who has managed the firm for 12 years, said: “We did a big project on a cow farm in Scotland which was converted into accommodation with barbecue huts and glamping buildings.
“We have been over to Spain putting up residential buildings.
“We made a unit for virtual golf to be practised with high ceilings for the swing of the golf clubs."
Mr Harris works alongside his parents in the company.
He said: “ My parents started the company and are still part of it.
“One secret to our success is that we are building things that people are happy with.”
Like many businesses at the time, the timber yard was forced to close during the Covid lockdowns – but during this period demand rose for bespoke units.
Mr Harris said: “During the pandemic it went a bit crazy
“We did lots of studios and home offices.”
Mr Harris has also praised the firm’s loyal staff, return custom and customer recommendations.
He said: “One member of staff has been with us for 32 years called Nick Horspool.”
