Planning application for up to 70 homes in Long Sutton could bring a £460,000 contribution to schools and GP surgeries in town
Schools and GP surgeries in Long Sutton could be in line for a £460,000 windfall if plans for 70 new homes in the town go ahead.
An application to turn more than five acres of farmland off Lime Walk, Long Sutton, into a housing development for an estimated 163 people is now with South Holland District Council.
County education leaders have advised South Holland planning officers that should the homes be built, an educational contribution of more than £415,000 should be paid towards the possible expansions of Long Sutton Primary School, Peele Community College, Long Sutton, and University Academy Holbeach sixth form centre.
This is on the basis that the total of four to 18-year-olds living on the new development will be nearly 30.
In addition, a submission from NHS England to district council planning officers suggested that the new homes would lead to an extra 163 new patients registering with surgeries in Long Sutton and Holbeach.
As a result, a developer’s contribution of £46,200 may be required to provide extra services at Long Sutton, Holbeach and Littlebury (Holbeach) Medical Centres.
The development itself would be on land between Lime Walk and Anfield Road, identified in a guide to future development across south-east Lincolnshire as suitable for new housing.
A statement from planning consultants Robert Doughty Limited, on behalf of the developer, said: “The application site consists of an agricultural field for which there are no other uses that would prevent the proposal coming forward.”
The plans were discussed during a meeting of Long Sutton Parish Council on Thursday.
Coun Dale Frith, parish council chairman, said: “The land was indicated as suitable for development on the latest South East Lincolnshire Local Plan.
“So it was no surprise when this planning application came up for consideration.”
Meanwhile, neighbouring Lutton Parish Council has asked planning officers to commit the developer to including a secure drainage system in their plans so that the risk of flooding is averted.
Coun David Wilkinson, parish council chairman, said: "We were aware of the plans and have written to South Holland District Council, making it aware of the problems of flooding in the area.
"If any future developments do happen, we hope the council will make sure that flooding doesn't happen further down Lime Walk and into Lutton parish."
