Closing time! Henry’s fish and chip shop in Long Sutton to close today

A popular chip shop will be serving up its portions for the final time today (Thursday).

Henry’s in Long Sutton will close this evening as owner Trevor Smith has decided to retire after running the business for 20 years.

“I’m hoping its busy so I wont have a lot of time to think about it,” said Trevor, who – with the exception of three months working at Geest in Sutton Bridge – has been involved in the trade since his early teens.

“I am really sad as I’ll miss the customers. But my wife deserves a bit more of a life, and to see more of me as well. And the grandkids.”

It will also be a retirement for Linda, Trevor’s wife of 41 years, who has done the business’ books.

Henry’s plans to remain open until 8pm this evening, or until the stock is sold out.

Trevor’s seven members of staff will join him today for an emotional farewell.

The business will be taken over, but will shut temporarily for refurbishments.
