Flowers 'n' Things and Penningtons up for sale in Spalding - but owners assure the business is not closing
New owners are being sought for a well-known family business in Spalding.
Flowers 'n' Things and Penningtons Coffee Shop in Red Lion Street have been put on the market by current owners, sisters Anna Avery and Jane Fletcher.
But they assure customers that the business itself is not closing.
They both admit it has been an extremely hard decision to make, and they hope that the new owners will "love it as much as we have loved it."
"We will be here until we find the right buyer," Anna said. "We have lived and breathed the shop and it has to go to the right buyer."
Jane, who has been involved in the business for 'nearly 40 years', explained: "It'll enable us to have a different adventure. We are anticipating it will be some time before we find a buyer but now is the time to start thinking about it."
The florist and coffee shop are both listed on Internet sites Rightmove and The Business Partnership, who potential buyers should contact.
And the sisters will still own the premises with the business being a 'going concern.'
"We would like someone to take it over who is experienced in food and flowers," Anna said.
Flowers 'n' Things was originally a small florist shop, opened by Jane and her mum Hazel Goemans in 1981.
"We will be here until we find the right buyer. We have lived and breathed the shop and it has to go to the right buyer."
Anna joined the business about 25 years ago. The adjoining coffee shop, Penningtons, is extremely popular with town shoppers wanting a cuppa or a natter and retains the family name.
The business bounced back from a devastating fire 12 years ago that ravaged most of the building.
Jane remembers: "I was not prepared for the amount of damage. A policeman said at the time 'there might be a bit of smoke'. There was so much damage.You opened drawers and it was just ash inside."
They both added that it's been more of a lifestyle than a business for them both - and Jane said that when it does sell: "We definitely won't be idle!"
