Horse and Groom pub in Holbeach struck by lightning this afternoon
Staff at a Holbeach pub were given an almighty fright after it was struck by lightning.
A bolt of lightning hit the Horse and Groom pub in Holbeach at around 3.30pm this afternoon.
Owner Nick Williams said people from across the street witnessed the event.
He said: "An almighty yellow and orange glow went right across the top of the pub.
"We heard an almighty boom and everything went bang.
"We assume it’s hit the top of the pub, hit the aerial and come down."
The building lost power after the lightning struck, with all TVs, CCTV cameras and alarm systems turning off.
Thankfully, no one was hurt during the incident.
"We’re all okay, but it scared the hell out of everybody," said Mr Williams.
"I’ve never heard anything quite like it. It made us jump out of our skin, and I’m not normally jumpy."
At the time of writing, the pub has general power but is still trying to regain the electricity cut out by the lightning.
