Fat blocking sewers in Spalding, Woodbridge, Peterborough and Sleaford prompts appeal from Anglian Water
Anglian Water is asking people not to pour fat down the sink after publishing pictures of a Spalding manhole.
Fat blocking a manhole in the town along with others in Woodbridge, Peterborough and Sleaford have been pictured on the firm's social media account.
It states: "Our key worker sewer teams have a tough job keeping the pipes flowing & protecting rivers – especially when fat causes blockages. Here’s some manholes they've lifted in Woodbridge, Peterborough, Spalding and Sleaford recently. Remember: fat down the sink causes a stink!
Last year, there are more than 40,000 blockages a year in East Anglia alone - costing the company a whopping £19million a year.
The wrongful disposal of fats, oils and greases can lead to devastating flooding and environmental pollution. Staggeringly, 80% of all these blockages are completely avoidable through simple behaviour changes.
Anglian Water is encouraging everyone to dispose of their waste responsibly.
