Wobbly Barn is new event venue in Weston Hills

When Karen and Tony Milsom first saw the barn which came with their new family home they knew it had great potential.

And now after refurbishing it and using it for their own parties they have turned it into a stunning event venue - Wobbly Barn - which others seeking somewhere special to hold a celebration can hire.

The couple, of Fengate Drove, Weston Hills, worked non-stop for three months to transform the run-down building behind their house, using reclaimed timbers from Port Sutton Bridge to create a wooden lodge effect.

Other features include a bar - crafted by Tony’s father Terry, a joiner by trade - and a giant cartwheel fitted with lights suspended from the ceiling.

“We bought this house four years ago and when we looked around the first time the barn was dilapidated – it had an old aircraft and a Mini inside, but we saw past that and knew it had great potential,” says Karen, who works in event management.

“We cleared it out to use as an indoor space when we hosted Dad’s 65th birthday party and then decided we would completely transform it for our own joint 40th , which we held last year.

“We worked on it day and night and we’re really pleased with how it’s turned out. We’ve had such great feedback from family and friends we decided we’d offer it for hire.”

The Wobbly Barn can accommodate up to 100 people, and as well as the bar, there is a comfortable seating area, room for a dancefloor and DJ or live music, plus plenty of space for parking outside.

Karen says the barn is perfect for birthday and anniversary parties, Christenings or wedding receptions and clients also have the option to use the couple’s paddock if they want to put up a marquee.

“We supply the barn, the bar and the bar staff and will sit down with all our clients to discuss their individual needs and what they’re looking for,” she added.

“We have our own preferred suppliers including caterers, DJs and toilets and can help people plan their whole celebration.

“They can decorate the barn however they want – it’s a blank canvas. We just wanted to create somewhere that’s an alternative to traditional function halls and hotel venues, that’s a bit quirky, but still affordable.

“So far things are going well – we’ve got a few bookings and it’s now just a case of letting people know we’re here and what the Wobbly Barn has to offer.”
