Designer fashion store Robert Goddard in Spalding set to close down ‘with a heavy heart’
A town centre store that sells men and women’s designer fashion is set to close.
Robert Goddard in Market Place, Spalding has a sign in the window announcing the closure of its shop ‘with a heavy heart’. There is also a closing down sale under way.
A sign in the window states: “We’ll miss you Spalding.
“It is with a heavy heart that we must announce the closure of this store.
“We are immensely thankful for the support of our loyal customers and our dedicated team, and we will deeply miss being part of the Spalding community.”
In August, the firm’s spokesperson Andy Woodthorpe quashed rumours that the popular branch — which was relocated from Vine Street to Market Place — would be shutting or that the firm was going into liquidation.
Opening hours at the Spalding site were changed to Tuesday to Saturday from 9.30am - 5pm and Mr Woodthorpe previously stated that the company was still expanding with business ‘doing really well’ as other stores replicate this model of trading hours.
He added that operating on a five day basis had not affected revenue, helped with staffing, safeguarding and working for the trading model in the town - however the situation now seems to have changed.
The company also has branches in Lincoln and Wisbech and two new stores opened in St Albans and Royal Leamington Spa - while a Peterborough branch previously closed.
The Robert Goddard store in Spalding has been approached for comment.
