Our guide to south Lincolnshire's Jubilee celebratory events including Spalding, Holbeach, Long Sutton and Crowland




Villages and towns across our area are hosting events for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

With two bank holidays and a weekend to follow, it's set to be a four day celebration with fun and games planned in towns and villages throughout South Holland

Here's our guide to what's on, where and when.

Cowbit

June 4

11am

Cowbit Playing Field

Punt gun salute

1pm

Jubilee Funday.

There will be an Adele tribute act, live music and arena events, vintage and classic car show, beer tent and refreshments, fairground rides, arena displays, dog show, rock bus and stalls.

From 6pm there will be live bands, food and licensed bar and fireworks.

There is also a scarecrow festival running from June 2 to June 5.

Crowland

Evensong for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

June 2

There will be a Choral Evensong at Crowland Abbey by The Cantores Textoris from Spalding.

Everyone is welcome.

June 5

2pm

The Big Lunch on North Street

There will be fairground rides, Dave the Clown, Empire & Crowland Cheer and Dance, Louise Holland’s alpacas, Crowland Family Butchers BBQ, Copper Kettle Jubilee Teas and the George and Angel will be serving drinks.

Music at 2pm from The Lovettes.

The road will be closed from 10:30am to about 7pm.

Deeping St Nicholas

Platinum Jubilee Fete - St Nicholas Way, PE11 3TQ

There will be live music, bouncy castle, craft stalls, tombola, bar, BBQ and cakes on offer.

Gedney Hill

June 4

at 3pm

Village Hall

Street party themed picnic in the car park. Bring your own food (tables and chairs provided). There will be a competition for the best dressed table.

The bar will be open and there will be entertainment, crafts and games.

The church will also be open for displays of flowers and memorabilia on the day.

Family fun Day

Free event with family picnic at 12pm, entertainment from Magic Paul at 1:45pm then fancy dress competition and games from 3pm.

June 3

Afternoon tea for senior citizens with entertainment from Alan Jackson.

Jubilee Party

Live music from Halo, a hog roast meal by Trevor Sharpe and a bar.

Human Donkey Derby

June 5

Jubilee Marquee on Gosberton Playing Field

Five churches in Gosberton and Clough have joined together and will be holding a celebration service. All are welcome.

This will be followed by a ‘Bring your Own Picnic’ to eat in the park at noon. Don’t forget chairs and ground blankets as well as your picnic.

There will be music, stalls, competitions, refreshments and a quiz throughout the day.

No admission charge. All donations will go to local charities.

Holbeach

Beacon lighting at the Wignal’s Gate beacon with food and drink between 8pm and 10pm.

There will also be a display of old images of Holbeach and garden games.

Holbeach Parish Council’s Jubilee Wheelbarrow Race in the town centre on Saturday, June 4. Teams of two, £2 entry, to enter email clerk@holbeachpc.com

There will also be a competition for the best decorated street. Send your photos to clerk@holbeachpc.com before June 10.

9pm – the bar at the village hall will open for some warming drinks

9.40pm - the playing of ‘Majesty’ by a solo cornet/trumpet player to fanfare the lighting of the beacon.

9.45pm – lighting of the new Jubilee Beacon in the Playing Field in line with all the beacons nationally.

June 4

10am to 4pm

Church Flower Festival

Records of baptisms, weddings and burials along with some original history of the church will be available to look at.

12 noon

Unveiling of new village sign at junction of Lincoln Lane/Lapwater Lane /St Marks Road.

June 5

11am - a special church service to celebrate the Queen’s 70 years on the throne.

12 noon onwards - Picnic in the Playing Field in support of Holbeach St Marks Royal British Legion. Bring your own food and chairs or rugs. A BBQ will be cooking sausages and any food you bring. There will be traditional games, cakes stalls and tombola/raffle. Plus, the bar will be open.

Kirton

June 4

1pm to 10pm

Kirton Town Hall Green and St Peter & St Paul Church grounds

Queen’s Jubilee Picnic in the Park

There will be Jubilee tree planting, live music, including Matty Haynes and other artists, bouncy castles, games, stalls, burger van, ice creams, face painting, tarot reading, raffles and lots more.

This is an open event and not ticketed.

Long Sutton

June 2

9:45pm

The fire brigade will light the beacon at Winfrey Park.

Starting with lighting of the beacon on Thursday in Winfrey Park. Father Jonathan will do the blessing.

June 5

10am

Community Celebration

Including a dog show, craft stalls, music and singer from Popcorn Media, sessions from Spalding Brass, display of vintage vehicles, old fashioned games, balloons and face painting, fair rides and swing boats and competitions.

The Rock Bus, fire brigade and Peele Gym will be there.

The Royal British Legion will be offering tea and cake, plus other food will be on offer.

There will also be a raffle, shop window competitions, scavenger hunts, quizzes and guess weight of cake competition.

There will also be a service in the church at 10.30 am with bell ringing

Moulton

June 2

Lantern Parade

Meet at the Mill at 7pm to leave at 7.30pm

Children can bring their own lanterns (no naked flames) battery tea lights and glow sticks will be provided. Hot dogs and hot and cold drinks will also be provided after the parade. All free of charge.

9:15pm

Beacon lighting ceremony

June 3

2pm

Afternoon Tea in the Moulton Mill. Ticket only free event tickets required for numbers.

6pm

Judging for the Prince/Princess at the Community Centre.

7pm - 11:30pm

Family disco in the Community Centre. Free Entry. Bar provided by The Swan.

June 2 - June 5

The Granary Tea Room and Moulton Windmill will be open. Tours will be available until 3pm each day.

June 4

Moulton Trooping the Colour and Village Fete

Village Fete Starting at 1pm. Village Parade leaving the Mill and passing through the village at 2.30pm.

The parade will have the Jubilee Prince and Princess in attendance and will include vintage tractors, cars and other vehicles.

During the afternoon there will be vehicles displayed, craft stalls, games and other stalls at the Community Centre, Mill, Village Green and Church.

There will be face painting; Jubilee goodie bags for the children and teddy bear parachuting at the Mill. Free.

Village Fete competitions - Painting, Cake, Photography will be shown at the Community Centre. Entries to be ready for judging for 10am judging 11am onwards. There will also be the Jubilee decorated house.

The Swan will be showing the “Party at the Palace” from 8pm on a large screen in the pub garden. Free entry.

June 4 and June 5

Teddy Parachuting at the Mill.

June 5

The Big Jubilee Lunch

The road will be closed from the Village Green along Broad Lane to Community Centre.

Tables and chairs will be set out for you to bring your own picnics.

During the afternoon there will also be a “Mouton’s Got Talent” show for adults and children on a stage on the Village Green. Starting at 2pm

The Big Jubilee Raffle will also be drawn after the Talent Show.

Moulton Seas End

June 2

Cheese and wine evening followed by the beacon lighting at 9:45pm.

June 3

Coffee and cake, plus the village jubilee picture unveiling.

June 4

Village Playing Field.

Family Fun Day with bouncy castles, an inflatable assault course, face painting, BBQ, village tug of war, football kickabout, drinks from The Baravan and line dancing.

June 5

11am to 3pm

Coffee and cake, raffle draw, competition winner presentations and live music with local band RetrospeKt.

The competitions include:

Best Decorated Jubilee Garden with £50 first prize

Age 3-5 Design a Jubilee Flag with £5 first prize

Age 6-15 Design a Jubilee Crown with £10 first prize

Age 16+ Create a gift for the Queen with £20 first prize and your gift will be sent to Her Majesty the Queen

Pinchbeck

June 2

Lighting of the beacon will take place. Gather at St Mary’s Church Hall at 8:15pm for an 8:30pm start. Jeff Woods AKA Pavanotti will be there to keep everyone entertained. The lighting will take place at 9:45pm.

June 4

Glebe Field

From 2pm to 6:30pm

Picnic in the Park.

Free event with live music, entertainment, games, ice cream and hot food.

Quadring

June 4

Quadring Village Hall

10am - 12pm

Jubilee Crafting

Children of all ages are welcome to have a go at designing a flag or stamp, making Windsor Castle and much more.

June 5

3pm to 7pm

St Margaret’s Church Hall

Quadring’s ‘Bring Your Own Picnic’ Street Party.

No tickets required, just turn up with your picnic, ask your friends and neighbours too.

There will be free children’s crafts, seven decades of music and an open microphone. There will also be Jubilee Celebration Tree Planting and a Jubilee Pudding Share (make and bring a pudding to share).

Glen Park

There will be a raffle, decorate a crown competition, fancy dress competition, bouncy castle, entertainment from the Pinchbeck Tappers, a ‘Throughout the Ages’ disco, refreshments and a special cake made by a royal baker.

The lighting of the beacon will take place at 9:45pm

Sutton Bridge

June 4

12pm until late

Party in the Memorial Park. The village will come together for an afternoon and evening to promote the various activities undertaken in the village which may not be known to all residents. There will be games, competitions and much much more the Saturday will be rounded off by the relighting of the beacon and a grand firework display

Spalding

Event with entertainment by Phil Wigger and refreshments organised by Couns Angela Newton and Anthony Cronin.

Watch a unique and inventive feature length documentary about the life of Queen Elizabeth II - Elizabeth: A Portrait in Parts.

Veterans’ Breakfast

An opportunity for veterans to meet and chat. There will also be live music from a singer.

June 4

South Holland Centre

Watch Helen Mirren star in the multi-award winning film The Queen.

June 5

From 11am to 2pm

Ayscoughfee Gardens

The Jubilee Picnic. There will be garden games, a corgi trail, face paining and Ayscoughfee Hall Museum will be open.

6:30pm

Spalding Parish Church

Jubilee evensong with refreshments and floral displays in the church.

June 2 - June 5

Garden Party at Cley Hall Hotel

Open 11am until late

There will be cocktails and drinks offers to enjoy in the Secret Garden or the bar and lounge.

Free entry and free parking.

June 15

Special Jubilee trip to Westminster in London.

The bus will leave from the town’s Woodlands Hotel. MP Sir John Hayes will be on hand to meet up with the group during the day. All are welcome.

Whaplode Drove

June 2

The Big Jubilee Celebration at the Elizabethan Centre.

Beacon Lighting evening on Thursday June 2 with a live brass band (Kirton Brass Band) giving a pre-ceremony concert from 8pm followed by the official Beacon Lighting at 9.45pm followed by light show and fireworks.

June 4

There will be an all day community fun day involving organisations such as local schools, the WI and the Church.

There will be fancy dress, games and food and the evening concert from Buckingham Palace will be shown on large screens both indoors and out.

June 5

Picnic in The Park which will be a ‘bring your own lunch’ event with outside seating and tables which will resemble a more traditional street party. There will be a live DJ who will be playing music from 1952 onwards.

Whaplode St Catherine

June 3

BBQ from 3pm (vegetarians catered for) plus a tombola and raffle.

Childrens’ disco from 5pm to 7pm with party games and prizes for the best jubilee outfits.

Family disco from 7pm until late with a free buffet.

The bar will be open with alcoholic and soft drinks on offer.

Fly In Weekend

There will be a fete on the Saturday from 11am - 4pm with tombola, splat the rat, how many sweets in a jar, guess the weight of the cake etc.

Road closures

A number of road closures will be in place over the bank holiday due to celebratory events and street parties.

These closures include:

June 2: Wignal’s Gate, Holbeach, 8pm - 10pm.

June 3: Church Street, Holbeach at 5pm; Welbeck Drive, Spalding; Lilburn Drive, Spalding; Westminster Drive, Spalding; Pebble Close, Sutton Bridge.

June 4: Church Street, Holbeach at 10am.

June 5: North Street, Crowland; Church Street, Holbeach; Bull Lane, Long Sutton; High Street, Moulton; Birkdale Close, Spalding; Neville Avenue, Spalding; Ingleby Court,

Spalding; Burton Road, Spalding; Pools Drive, Sutterton; High Street and Market Place, Swineshead.

Beacons

Thousands of community beacons will be lit across the country tonight (Thursday) at 9.45pm, including several in our district, to celebrate the Queen’s historic milestone and begin the weekend in style.
