Vandals target popular walking route which connects Spalding and Pinchbeck – four months after re-opening

Vandals have already damaged newly planted trees and covered a new bridge with graffiti.

The popular dog walking route under Spalding’s Western Relief Road project has been targeted just four months after opening.

Although motorists will not be able to use the main bridge until at least 2030 – when the southern section of road is built by Lincolnshire County Council – the long-awaited opening of Two Plank Bridge in December last year, has meant residents can easily walk from Spalding to Pinchbeck.

However, it hasn’t taken long for vandals to make their mark.

Passers-by have noticed an increase in anti-social behaviour along the route – including graffiti on the new bridge – which has previously been labelled by critics as a ‘white elephant’.

Support tubes and wooden props around the trees have also been broken and misplaced.
