Moulton Jubilee beacon is installed
A village’s Jubilee plans have been lit up after the installation of a celebratory beacon.
The Moulton Jubilee Committee has worked hard during the last year to raise funds for the beacon, and members were delighted to have it erected over the weekend.
Plans began last June, and workers from both G&D Engineering and the Oldershaw Group helped to put it up.
The post was installed last Thursday, with the basket and finishing touches added on Saturday.
Committee member Steven Adcock said: “It was a dream of ours to get one. We didn’t ever think we were going to, but we ended up getting it.”
G&D Engineering built the beacon themselves after the Jubilee Committee spent a number of months raising funds for the prized project.
It is now set to be at the front and centre when the village celebrates the Queen’s milestone anniversary.
“It’s going to be brilliant,” Mr Adcock added.
“We’re having loads of events over the weekend which have already been booked, and we’re having the big parade which will end at the beacon on the Thursday night (June 2).
“That will be the start of the events. We’re really looking forward to it.”
The Moulton Jubilee Committee also took a trip to the village’s primary school to hand out medals to pupils.
This was also made possible by various fundraising events.
Pre-school youngsters were also given medals as the committee aimed to get everyone into the Jubilee spirit.
