Halmer Court Care Home in Spalding provides workshops to improve lives of elderly people
Workshops aimed at improving the lives of elderly people and those living with dementia have taken place at a care home.
Halmer Court Care Home in Spalding, run by Glenholme Healthcare Group, hosted the second of a series of sessions attended by members of the community.
The workshop focused on how to reduce and prevent the risk of falls in elderly people and to increase knowledge in how simple lifestyle changes to the home environment can help.
George Dewis, dementia care specialist, said: “With falls costing the NHS over £2 billion each year and with one in three people over the age of 65, and half of people over the age of 80 falling at least once a year, it is important that as a care provider we play our part in educating and supporting our local community.
“Having worked previously in the area of falls prevention, as an Occupational Therapist, it was a pleasure being able to support the local community with explaining practical ways they can reduce their own risk of falling.”
The next workshop at the home will take place on Wednesday, June 11 at 5pm, and will explore the positive impact music can have for people living with dementia.
It will provide the opportunity for attendees to ask any questions they may have and gain practical insights into caring for their loved one.
