Reaction from Spalding United manager Brett Whaley after his side's victory over Corby Town
Spalding United manager Brett Whaley said he was pleased to see Ben Seymour-Shove end his barren spell in front of goal with the winner against Corby Town this afternoon.
Seymour-Shove found the net for the first time since the start of the new year when he was on target in the 1-1 draw against Histon.
His goal six minutes into the second half saw the Tulips complete a Northern Premier League Midlands double over the Steelmen.
Reflecting on the 1-0 win, Whaley said: "Ben scored in his first game for us here but he hadn't scored for a long time coming into this game.
"Before the game I told him that we still have complete faith in him as a player. He has worked hard but hasn't got himself in those goalscoring positions of late.
"I'm pleased for him and that's a massive weight off his shoulders. It's the same with Dylan Edge who is working his socks off but not scoring when the chances arrive.
"Scoring has been a bit of a problem for us recently, which is why it is important that we keep clean sheets at the other end."
Seymour-Shove and substitute Gregg Smith both had further efforts ruled out for offside in a game that was devoid of clear-cut chances.
But the Tulips boss felt his side's extra desire got them over the line against a Corby Town outfit who had only lost one game in eight coming into this afternoon's encounter.
Whaley added: "These mid-table battles towards the end of the season are not always going to be great games and sometimes it's about who wants it more and this afternoon I felt that we wanted it a little bit more than them.
"Credit to the players. The pitch is difficult to play on here and when you look at the league table there isn't much to play for.
"So in my eyes it was important that we backed up last week's win and we've done that. Those six points have put us back in the top half of the table.
"It has been difficult to get the ball down and play on and we've had to adapt to a different style of play at times. It's good to record back-to-back wins and back-to-back clean sheets."
Next up is a trip to Carlton Town on Monday and Whaley is likely to rotate his squad for the trip to Nottinghamshire.
"We've only got 17 players in the squad, so these two games is all about making sure that all 17 of those players get plenty of playing time," he said.-
