Barclays Bank branches in Stamford, Oakham and Oundle to close

Three town bank branches have been earmarked for closure.

Barclays will leave Broad Street, Stamford, and High Street, Oakham, on April 28, according to an announcement made by the bank today (Friday, January 27).

It will also leave New Street, Oundle on May 5.

Of customers using the Stamford branch, 92 per cent also banked using the Barclays app, website and by phone in 2021. Three customers were found to use the branch as their only means of carrying out their banking.

In Oakham, 91 per cent of people using the branch also used the app or online banking, with eight customers using the branch as their only access to their accounts.

In a report to customers, Barclays said: "When deciding whether to close this branch, we looked carefully at how it’s been used and how customers are banking in other ways.

"We’ll be working with the community to understand the impact of closing this branch.

"Once we’ve gathered feedback, we’ll publish the results in a booklet called ‘Branch closure feedback’."

The booklets will be available at the branches.

HSBC will close its branch in Stamford High Street on May 16 and in Oakham on June 20.

HSBC closed in Bourne in 2020, leaving no high street bank branches in the town.
